Why would I need larynx closure?

SLPs and healthcare providers may suggest swallowing exercises as part a treatment plan. These exercises may be prescribed along with other treatment options, such as surgery or medicines. These exercises can help strengthen your swallowing muscles. You'll be able to swallow easier. This will prevent you from aspirating.


There may be swallowing problems due to different conditions. Examples of such conditions are:

Significant dental problems

Conditions that lower saliva (like Sjogren’s Syndrome)

Mouth lesions

Parkinson disease and other neurologic disorders

Muscular dystrophies

Obstructive tissue in the esophagus due to a tumor
